Davao Light Inks Agreement With University Of Mindanao

Randy E. Angelia sign both Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement for the partnership between academe and industry in research and workforce.

Davao Light and the University of Mindanao (UM) are joining forces to strengthen industry-based research and align graduates with the needs of the power industry.

“This collaboration is a testament to our shared commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and empowering the youth,” said Anton Perdices, SVP and COO of AboitizPower Distribution.

The partnership continues decades of collaboration between the two parties on electrical engineering scholarships and talent acquisition. “It holds the promise of not only shaping the future workforce but also propelling advancements in energy distribution through cutting-edge research and development,” Perdices added.

Dr. Eugenio S. Guhao, Officer-in-Charge and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at UM, highlighted the program’s contribution towards capability building in the long-term.

“By joining forces, the University of Mindanao and AboitizPower Distribution Utility are contributing to the development, skill, and knowledge of all individuals who will play a vital role in shaping the future of Davao City and beyond,” he said.

“UM has contributed a lot to our leadership and staff which in turn contributed to our successes. With over 80 employees who are alumni of UM, the school has contributed a lot to our leadership and staff requirements, and as mentioned earlier, contributed to where we are today,” Rodger S. Velasco, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Davao Light said in his closing remarks.

The partnership aims to produce future electrical engineers who will drive advancements in the power industry and contribute to academic excellence. This is in line with Aboitiz Power Distribution and Davao Light’s massive transformative purpose of empowering the evolution of both cities and communities.
