Team members from AEV and WeatherPhilippines Foundation supported the maiden run of Air Amazing Race 2017 staged by sustainability partners theFortCity.com and iOpenHub, Inc. Facilitating as Race Guardians and Race Game Masters, the team members ensured that the participating students perform the challenges while learning clean air facts through an enjoyable experience. The race is inspired by a TV show but it injected unique features such as having an educational theme implemented in a modern urban center.
The race was organized for young people who are 12 to 15 years old and are living or studying in The Fort. Five teams from two schools, Global Leaders International School and Leaders International Christian School, competed to reach a secret location within the shortest time by overcoming challenges. The teams had to answer a question or perform a physical challenge in order to advance to the next leg of the race. While some stops challenged the teams to solve puzzles using information provided and related to clean air, at other stops, they had to overcome challenges that required them to display dexterity as well as team work.
Being relatively new to the group, I joined the volunteer activity because I really wanted to know the people I work with and try to socialize with them outside the work environment. The bonus part is we were able to enjoy each other’s company while doing something worthwhile, which is supporting this race’s cause.

Its nice to be part of an activity that teaches kids the importance of a clean environment, teamwork, humility and responsibility.
-Maan Capistrano, Risk Officer, Aboitiz Equity Ventures

Promoting air quality awareness can be made more fun and exciting. Not only did the activity enrich the children’s understanding of this important environmental issue, the race also provided an opportunity for them to interact and have fun with other kids.
-Jay Guevarra, Risk Manager, Aboitiz Equity Ventures
I volunteered because I personally believe in the advocacy. This is my way of giving back by supporting the FortCity’s intergenerational approach to promoting air quality awareness.
-Kaye Rosario-Sanggalang, Sustainability Manager, WeatherPhilippines Foundation
TheForCity.com is not just a resource platform or a guide to The Fort’s many establishments. The website pursues an advocacy on sustainable living, and the Air-mazing Race is one of our promotional events to educate people to support clean air in the Metro. By starting with the youth, we aim to instill this mindset among the patronizers of The Fort.
-Chiu Ying Wong, iOpenHub and TheFortCity.com
Congratulations to the winners! They were awarded cash prizes on the spot. But everyone who took part and finished the competition was a winner, as they had been part of a wonderful experience that supports a worthy cause.
