Notes by EMA: Personal Values to Win

December 2019
Enrique Aboitiz Mendieta

We have our values at Aboitiz that are about the Aboitiz Way. This message, however, is not to confuse anyone nor is it suggesting in any way any of our stated values.

I ran into these values that an ocean cleaning enterprise uses. I found them to be simple, clear, and winning values adapted to tomorrow’s needs. You may find them useful. What follows below is copied en toto and is not from my personal idea harvest.

Perhaps the worlds of the East and West are merging. The Western world, which has Christianity running through its veins, is driven by right and wrong; the Eastern world is driven by an underground river of Win and Lose. Somehow we need to do both.

On the “Get it, Get It Done” front, you may find that these values that will follow may be realistic reference.

1. DATA-DRIVEN

We validate our work with science and numbers

2. THINK BIG

We start by tracking the big problems and solve the small ones along the way.

3. WORK WITH NATURE

Technology should be symbiotic with nature.

4. HIGHLY FOCUSED

To do everything often leads to accomplishing nothing.

5. STRIVE FOR SIMPLICITY

We avoid interdependency for faster iteration cycles.

6. ITERATIVE

We test often and fast to learn we as we go and adapt as needed.

7. BUILD WITH EXPERTISE

But not without questioning it.

Wishing you all happy learning holidays!
