UnionBank and STI Commit To Raising Next Gen of Blockchain Leaders

By Rachelle Ann Tolentino

As part of an effort to sharpen the digital skills of the youth, UnionBank strengthened its partnership with STI College with the launch of the Xcellerator Learning Pathway Program.

A pioneer batch of 50 STI students from its different campuses nationwide will undertake an intensive 9-week program where they will gain knowledge, skills and practical experience on blockchain technology and its use cases.

UnionBank and STI College also signed a partnership for the Blockchain Xcellerator Experts Program, a certificate course which will focus on deepening the expertise and blockchain knowledge of the school’s faculty members and academic researchers.

The Xcellerator Program initiative supports UnionBank’s thrust to Tech Up universities and schools across the Philippines so that the country has the necessary human capital needed to create a truly inclusive future through technology. Through the partnership, UnionBank hopes to enable STI College  in becoming a highly digital and fully-fledged smart academic institution.

We are very excited to see our students become blockchain developers as they undergo the Xcellerator Program. With the expertise in emerging technologies provided by UnionBank, we’re able to prepare our students for the future requirements of the digital world.
– Bambi Geronimo, Alumni and Placement Service Head, STI

Launched in the latter half of  2019, the program started as a focused mentorship program but has since expanded into a learning vehicle for university students. The Xcellerator Learning Pathway Program builds on a strong relationship between UnionBank and STI following activities like hackathons, internship, and employment opportunities to students.

UnionBank fulfills a higher purpose of teching up communities through the Xcellerator Program. As UnionBank co-create innovations with educational institutions like STI, we enable educators and community of learners to apply knowledge on new technologies that pave the way for development of solutions that benefit the institution and its people.
