“To stay relevant, I believe that we should be able to upgrade ourselves with the skills needed for the future.“
This is the ProjectME journey of Fatima Ramos from Group Human Resources.
Fat is the Manager for HR Business and Analytics under Group Human Resources. Her primary responsibilities are researching trends that will add value to the HR Strategic Planning, and conducting internal organizational needs assessment and external benchmark comparisons to be able to see Group HR initiatives to fruition.
In line with her goal of constantly delivering service at the highest level, she took on a certification course on People Analytics and other courses on Data Science for her ProjectME.
When asked why, Fat shares, “Since last year, I feel like my knowledge about Data Science and People Analytics are just at the ‘tip of the iceberg’. To be able to add value to the organization and be confident about how I do my work, I included attending a certification course on People Analytics as part of my IDP, then eventually, as my Project ME.”
Fat saw that as data becomes more available and computing power continues to evolve, data science has become an in-demand skill. The HR function is also transforming, and with more data available, problem solving and decision making is becoming more data-driven. Upskilling is the way to thrive in this ever-changing business landscape.
Her biggest challenge was being able to allocate and commit to the time needed to see it through because of competing priorities in her workload. Her hard work has proven successful and her newly developed skill has helped her become more effective in her role. The next step in her journey is to be able to use the frameworks and methodology that she learned to be able to answer talent management questions more efficiently with data. She also aspires to be able to do machine learning models in the future.
“Always remember why you are doing this in the first place. Time is a finite resource, so we should be doing the most important things that matter to us first.“
