On March 23, Genius introduced their minimum viable product (MVP), which seeks to transform the direction of distribution utilities worldwide using digital twin solutions. Genius’ digital twin solutions center around offering precise and real-time asset registry and extensive network visibility.

Maintaining the accuracy of the asset registry enables the electricity distribution utilities (DUs) to eliminate any doubts regarding the precision of their assets, which could otherwise result in a decrease in the permissible revenue based on the total asset cost. Moreover, the asset registry’s network visibility fosters a culture of using data to make high-quality and high-velocity decisions, enhances operational efficiency, and results in improved customer service.
Genius was an idea built under the Aboitiz Transformation Team’s Future Co-Creation Voyage, which is a 12-week-long program designed to help teams create innovative start-ups from conception to implementation. Throughout the program, participants are guided by seasoned professionals in their selected industries and coached by experts in exponential growth. Towards the end of the voyage, participants pitch their ideas to investors and explore the plausible directions of their ventures.
Before starting the Future Co-Creation Voyage, the founders of Genius had different roles in various teams within AboitizPower. Mervin Dalian used to be the Department Head of Distribution Services Department at Davao Light, while Raymond Eilinger was a former IT Manager at Hedcor, Inc. The Future Co-creation Voyage encourages talented individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate across all SBUs.
Mervin shared their journey in building Genius, as well as how they felt after launching their MVP: “I have spent a significant portion of my life at the DU, witnessing persistent pain points and old problems. Instead of feeling disheartened, I saw these challenges as opportunities to innovate and create something new.”
He added that they experienced some challenging moments in the development of their MVP.
“At times, Raymond and I faced obstacles that left us feeling discouraged. However, the support from the people around us and our strong belief in Genius’s MTP (massive transformative purpose) of creating a world of well-informed utilities, kept us moving forward. During our MVP Launch, I couldn’t be happier or more determined to keep pushing forward. Seeing our hard work and vision come to life has only reinforced my belief in the power of innovation and the potential for positive change.”

Raymond explained the value of Genius in contributing to the Aboitiz Group’s Great Transformation and the pursuit of building a better future for the Philippines. “A better future has always played a large part in the Aboitiz purpose. This has guided our direction towards the enigmatic future for years. Information has always been vital in creating a close-accurate strategic direction. As they say, ‘By looking into the past we can predict the future.’ This is where Genius plays a role for the DUs. By sustaining data accuracy throughout the DU’s operations, we can process the information of the past to prepare and organize the transformation we need to disrupt the future of operating distribution utilities. Forging information with the fast-evolving technology can generate the synergy that creates the product or service of the future. This is on top of Genius as an invaluable tool in efficient DU operations, creating a world of well-informed distribution utilities. This is Genius’ purpose,” he said.
