Understanding the Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance

Municipal Ordinance No. 2024-006, also known as the Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance, is a local regulation in Santo Tomas aimed at addressing tangled and potentially hazardous overhead wires, commonly referred to as “spaghetti wires.” The ordinance primarily seeks to regulate pole usage and wire installations while also enhancing public safety and improving the Municipality’s overall visual appeal.

Davao Light’s Role in Implementation

In line with this initiative, Davao Light, through the Business Development Team of Pole2Pole, the Pole Attachments Business of AboitizPower Distribution Utilities, spearheaded a Pilot Site Launching of the Ordinance in partnership with the Municipal Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santo Tomas.

Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Enriczar Tia and Municipal Mayor Roland Dejesica led the activity, joined by key companies, utilities, and contracted service partners.

As part of the Pilot Site Launching, project partners cleared inactive wires and cables, bundled and secured active or low-lying wires, and removed redundant poles along Feeder Road 3 to Feeder Road 2, National Highway, Santo Tomas. The ordinance primarily aims to regulate pole usage and wire installation while also enhancing public safety and the overall visual appeal of the Municipality.

The project partners conducted the following improvements along Feeder Road 3 to Feeder Road 2, National Highway, in December 2024:

  • Cleared inactive wires and cables
  • Bundled and secured active or low-lying wires
  • Removed redundant poles, especially those obstructing roads and sidewalks

This initiative showcased a shared commitment between Davao Light, the LGU, and other stakeholders in ensuring public safety and improving infrastructure.
