Switch to LED lights. With the recent rate increase, Davao Light encourages customers to practice energy efficiency to help manage electricity bills, especially during the rainy season. With frequent rainy days and overcast skies, indoor lighting is required more than usual. LED lights are a more efficient choice than incandescent bulbs as they consume less energy.
Overall residential electricity rate for Davao Light increased by PHP0.0887 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in July 2025, pushing the rate up to PHP8.7772 per kWh from PHP8.6885 per kWh last month. This applies to the billing period from July 11 to August 10.
The increase is due to higher power supply prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where Davao Light sources part of its power requirement.
A household using essential appliances such as light bulbs, electric fans, an iron, a television, a rice cooker, a washing machine, and a refrigerator, and consuming 200 kWh, will experience a bill increase of approximately PHP17.74.
The power distribution utility reminds customers that monthly bills are affected by two factors: the monthly rate and power consumption. The power supply market pricing dictates the monthly rate, while the consumer manages their power consumption. When consumption is high, it will result in a high electricity bill.
With the rate increase, Davao Light encourages customers to practice energy efficiency at home or in the office. Here are some tips for customers to save on power costs and avoid high electricity bills during the rainy season:
- Use LED light bulbs, especially on rainy days and overcast skies when indoor lighting is required more than usual. LED lights are more efficient than incandescent bulbs because they use less energy.
- Let fresh air circulate inside the home by opening windows and curtains during the cooler hours of the day.
- Use electric fans. Turn on the air conditioning units only when needed.
- Use laundry dryers conscientiously, especially now that drying clothes naturally is challenging due to the frequent rain.
- Unplug unused appliances and devices, as these still consume electricity even when turned off but remain plugged into a power outlet.
