Aboitiz Foundation Champions Financial and Digital Empowerment for Women in Misamis Oriental

Graduates of Elevate AIDA Batch 60 and 61 from Tagoloan and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, complete the pilot financial literacy and cybersecurity training, a joint initiative of Aboitiz Foundation and UnionBank of the Philippines.

Aboitiz Foundation, in partnership with the local government units (LGUs) of Tagoloan and Villanueva, UnionBank, and key community stakeholders, proudly supported the graduation of Batch 60 and 61 women beneficiaries of the Elevate AIDA program. The milestone was celebrated through a comprehensive Financial Literacy and Cybersecurity Training held in June in Misamis Oriental.

The initiative aims to equip women with essential knowledge and practical skills to achieve economic independence, promote responsible digital behavior, and foster sustainable livelihoods in their communities.

“Through Elevate AIDA, we empower women not just to participate in the economy but to thrive and lead within it. Financial literacy and cybersecurity are now basic life skills, and today’s training reaffirms our commitment to making sure every woman in our communities is ready for the digital and financial realities of today,” said Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar, president of Aboitiz Foundation.

Led by Ms. Marisel “Tetel” Baluran of InLife, the Financial Literacy Training provided the graduates with practical tools to effectively manage household finances, save for the future, and make informed economic decisions. Meanwhile, UnionBank’s cybersecurity experts, Mr. Zeus Araneta and Ms. Sherryl Ann Neri, led the Digital Safety Training, guiding the women on navigating digital spaces safely, protecting their personal information, and building confidence in using online platforms for personal and entrepreneurial ventures.

“This partnership is more than just a training—it’s a long-term investment in women’s empowerment and community development,” added Hontiveros-Malvar.

The event brought together representatives from the LGUs of Tagoloan and Villanueva, including their Municipal Social Welfare and Development Offices (MSWDOs), SPI representatives Ms. Elnie Cagas and Mr. Jerome Soldevilla, and the Union Bank of the Philippines – Lapasan Branch team led by Ms. Jerrily Aguillon—a testament to the power of collaboration in advancing inclusive and meaningful change.

The training reinforces the core objectives of the Elevate AIDA program: uplifting women through education, enabling economic self-sufficiency, and fostering safer digital communities. As these graduates take their next steps, they carry with them not only new skills but a renewed sense of purpose, confidence, and connection.

Aboitiz Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to co-create resilient, empowered communities by supporting programs that create lasting, inclusive impact.
