Aboitiz Land’s Jonathan Malijan On Innovation Rooted In Purpose

Let me tell you my story and how I became the person I am today to perhaps inspire others who are just starting their career with Aboitiz. I am just like you, I am relatively new but that doesn’t stop me from performing my best and doing everything possible to contribute to A-Land. I just had my 2nd working anniversary last month by the way.

The team’s initiatives that helped me earn this award includes Delinquents Accounts, Takeout and Bank Loan Monitoring, as well as enhancing the RFTO & Active Accounts Database.

I was also told that the visibility of the accounts statuses and the comprehensive reports I made impacted some teams. Of course, these were only possible because my managers are always very supportive and always there guiding and honing my skills even until now. Kudos to them, I would not be here if it wasn’t for them.

Last March 2023, Jonathan received AboitizLand’s CEO Excellence Award under the Team Member Category for his outstanding contributions, including enhanced delinquent accounts monitoring and improved cross-functional coordination.

You see, I didn’t really start out as a customer data analyst, this position was not even existing when I applied. I was first hired as a Customer Relations Advisor under the CST and was just appointed about a year and a half ago as a Data Analyst.

Now, during one of our monthly coordination meetings, the manager of CST and CSG, asked the status of the Purchase Orders issue of the company’s Ajoyas in North Luzon where I was assigned.

Presenting my screen, this is a virtual meeting by the way, the manager seemed to be impressed with what I did. I showed her an organized list using different google sheet formulas like IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS and LOOKUPS. But the one I think that stuck out to her was the IMPORTRANGE function. And this is the formula that changed my career here in ABOITIZ.

After this, I was asked to do a monitoring regarding the RFCs/RFRs, Payment Arrangements and Issues for the CRAs under Customer Service Team, which I did and they were very happy about the results. I received praises from the manager and my TL, they were very proud.

I was also tasked to enhance the delinquent accounts monitoring,I finished it and discussed it with the heads of the Collections. During this time, the Billing & Collection Team was moving out from us, the Customer Service Team. And yes, they find the enhancements really great, I say.

One day, we heard the news that, the current Head of CST and CSG was resigning and there is a need for someone to take care of the team’s files and reports as well as the weekly and monthly updates of basically everything, someone who can read and use formulas in google sheets thus creating the Customer Data Analyst position.

Little did I know, I was being selected for the position. And guess what, the manager recommended me for the vacancy. And this unlocked a lot of the doors of opportunities for me.

I accepted the position immediately afterwards. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, at least for me. And from that day on, everything is history.

Now working as the Customer Data Analyst, although there are errors I have made in some of my tasks, I always try and keep them to a minimum. I am not afraid to make mistakes as  I am still learning and I know it will make me better.

The things that I am doing now, these are the things that I enjoy. I love the idea of organizing data and experimenting on it, perhaps this is also the reason why I easily do my tasks and do not feel any stress towards my job.
