AIC Water, together with Aboitiz business units and partner local government units, donated almost half a million liters of potable water to typhoon-ravaged Cebu
CEBU, PHILIPPINES – Following the damaging effects of Typhoon Tino (International Name: Kalmaegi) in Central Visayas, Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, mobilized relief efforts and delivered an estimated 518,310 liters of potable water to affected Cebuanos.
AIC Water, together with Aboitiz business units, delivered water tankers and 5-gallon water containers in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, and Danao, and the municipalities of Talisay, Asturias, Liloan, and Balamban.
The donated water was sourced from the MEZ2 (Mactan Economic Zone 2) Estate Water desalination plant in Lapu-Lapu City, which processes and treats water from a brackish water lagoon inside the MEZ2 Estate.
“On behalf of the City Government of Lapu-Lapu, I extend my sincere gratitude to Aboitiz InfraCapital for their timely and generous donation of potable water to our communities following the onslaught of Typhoon Tino,” said Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Cindi King-Chan. “Their contribution of 164K liters of water has been an essential support to our response operations, especially as our residents and families continue to recover and cope with the ongoing water supply shortage,” the mayor added.
AIC Water’s contribution is part of the Aboitiz Group’s relief operations to help affected communities from the recent typhoon, and the 6.9-magnitude earthquake last September. Together with partner local government units, the Aboitiz Group managed to distribute over 21,400 food packs and 1,500 non-food items, benefiting more than 15,200 families across Visayas and Mindanao.
“This assistance has made a direct and meaningful impact on the daily lives of thousands of Opoganons,” Mayor Chan said.
AIC Water will continue to mobilize its existing capabilities and resources to support affected Cebuano communities as they begin their path to recovery.
