For ICT Associate Lilibeth Balani, a simple idea can make a big impact. Noticing how her colleagues had to carry their belongings to and from the office every day, she suggested extending locker use from a daily to a weekly arrangement.
“It’s amazing how one small change can make our daily routines easier,” Lilibeth shared. Soon after, her suggestion was implemented, allowing team members to securely store their items for up to a week — a practical solution that reduced hassle and boosted convenience.
Lilibeth’s idea is one of the first to be implemented under SimpliFix, Aboitiz Construction’s innovation program launched in September 2024. SimpliFix empowers team members to rethink how work gets done by identifying opportunities to simplify processes and eliminate inefficiencies.
The program fosters a culture of inclusivity and continuous improvement, encouraging team members to submit ideas that improve day-to-day tasks and enhance productivity. SimpliFix ideas are classified into two categories: Low-Hanging, which refers to quick wins that can be easily implemented, and Complex, which involves more intricate projects requiring thorough planning but delivering long-term benefits.
Since its launch, 45 ideas have been submitted, addressing areas like process improvements, cost savings, and workplace enhancements. Of these, six relate to Budget and Finance, 10 propose New Ways of Working, five prescribe improvements in the Office and Facility, 16 talk about People Behavior and Performance, and eight concern Technology.
Following the SimpliFix Council’s thorough deliberations and evaluation of these ideas, and the ongoing monitoring of their implementation, four ideas have already been “Simplifixed”, seven are currently being implemented, and 28 are set for future implementation starting January 2025.
Another ongoing initiative is the use of the People Core system for performance appraisals, standardizing the process for both regular and probationary employees. Previously, probationary appraisals were managed through Google Sheets, but with People Core, a unified tool ensures consistency and efficiency. Other ideas submitted through SimpliFix include improvements in workstations, new meeting practices to boost productivity, and the move towards a paperless procurement system.“
Through this initiative, we empower our Kaubans to contribute and embody the spirit of continuous improvement and excellence. All Kaubans, regardless of level in the organization, are welcome to submit their innovative ideas to simplify and make our work smarter. By doing so, we create the opportunity to harness the collective intelligence of our team to make meaningful changes in the organization,” shared Karmine Andrea Ching, SAVP for Business Transformation and SimpliFix Program Champion.
For Lilibeth, the success of her simple locker idea is just the beginning. She sees SimpliFix as a way to continuously refine how work is done at Aboitiz Construction, bringing tangible improvements that will benefit everyone in the long run. “It’s exciting to see how much we can achieve together by simply listening to each other and making small changes that add up,” she said.
By championing SimpliFix, Aboitiz Construction strengthens its commitment to innovation and its people. The initiative empowers team members, streamlines processes, and positions the company to excel. Looking ahead, SimpliFix will continue driving improvements, enhancing efficiency, and fostering a more employee-centric work environment.
