Aboitiz Equity Ventures Strengthens Data Capabilities through Its First Data Literacy Program

LEADING WITH DATA. The first batch of graduates completed the four-month data literacy journey designed to build capability, confidence, and impact through data.

In today’s increasingly complex business landscape, data has become a critical enabler of sound decision-making. Recognizing this, Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) launched the Data Literacy Program to equip A-People with the confidence and capability to use data more effectively in driving decisions, simplifying processes, and creating sustainable value across the organization.

Designed to move beyond dashboards and reports, the program focused on building practical data skills that matter in real work settings. Participants learned how to ask the right business questions, connect insights across data sets, and communicate findings through clear and compelling data stories. By grounding learning in real AEV use cases, the program helped turn information into insights that lead to action.

AEV’s People Team partnered with Eskwelabs, a leading organization for upskilling data and analytics, to bring this vision to life. From December 1, 2025 to January 14, 2026, selected team members across teams completed an intensive 9-hour learning sprint focused on practical data contexts, hands-on analysis, and executive-level storytelling. Through a mix of real-time use cases and Eskwelabs-provided sample data, they strengthened their skills in data wrangling, insights generation, and presentation, ensuring immediate relevance to their day-to-day work.

Data Capability Pathfinder

As part of the program, all AEV team members completed the Data Capability Pathfinder, an individual assessment designed to highlight data strengths, identify growth areas, and provide personalized learning recommendations. The tool enabled participants to better understand their current data capabilities and build confidence in applying data within their roles.

Eskwelabs, AEV’s learning partner, supported participants throughout the first run of the Data Literacy Program by delivering practical, hands-on training grounded in real business use cases.

A dedicated session further guided participants through their results, helping them translate insights into concrete next steps. This session provided practical direction for continuing their data capability journey beyond the program.

Learning Sprint Highlights

Sprint 1: Asking Research Questions & Initial Analysis for Insights

Participants learned how to identify the right business questions, define meaningful metrics, and frame analysis problems that drive sound decision-making.

Sprint 2: Data Wrangling and Insighting

Participants gained hands-on experience in data cleaning, validation, and analysis using spreadsheet tools—turning raw data into clear, credible insights.

Sprint 3: Storytelling & Executive Presentation

Participants translated their findings into compelling data stories and executive-ready presentations that support strategy, transparency, and performance.

The program concluded with a presentation session reviewed by a panel of Aboitiz executives at AEV, including FVP for Corporate Finance Mark Velasquez, FVP for People Apol Castro, and Chief Strategy Officer John Rubio. Their insights and feedback marked the culmination of the learning journey and reinforced the importance of data-driven thinking at AEV.

The Data Literacy Program reshaped how I think about data. It wasn’t just about cleaning information—it was about connecting the dots and turning fragmented logs into insights that truly inform better decisions.

While the Data Capability Pathfinder program has officially concluded, it marks only the beginning of AEV’s broader data journey. This milestone reinforces the company’s strong commitment to building a data-driven culture where insights inform decisions and create long-term value for the organization.
