Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. and the SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP) were recognized at the 2025 Asian Power Awards held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for their contributions to renewable energy and innovation in the region.
Aboitiz Renewables was named “Independent Power Producer of the Year”, together with others from Australia, India, Indonesia, and Pakistan, while SNAP received “Information Technology Project of the Year” and “Innovative Power Technology of the Year” awards for the Philippines.
Aboitiz Renewables is the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, whereas SNAP is a joint venture between Scatec of Norway and Aboitiz Renewables.
Aboitiz Renewables’s recognition was anchored on the 173-megawatt peak Calatrava Solar Project in Negros Occidental, currently the largest solar installation in its renewable energy portfolio. Now fully operational, the project supplies clean power to the national grid, supporting the Philippines’ national energy transition, while creating jobs and supporting local communities.
Meanwhile, SNAP was recognized in information technology for its Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Program (DSAI), which upskills and trains employees to be data scientists. DSAI has helped deliver high-impact projects that optimize operations, improve forecasting accuracy, and drive operational efficiency across SNAP’s portfolio of hydroelectric power plants.
At the same time, recognition for innovative power technology was given to the Magat Turbine Efficiency Prediction Tool, which uses historical plant data to predict the real-time efficiency of each turbine unit at the 360-megawatt Magat hydroelectric power plant in Isabela, maximizing its generation potential.
“We believe that digital transformation is key to unlocking the full potential of renewable energy. At SNAP, innovation is geared towards helping energize a sustainable energy future for all,” said SNAP President and CEO Joseph Yu.
“The DSAI program has created a self-sustaining ecosystem of innovators, one that is built to continuously identify opportunities for optimization and ensure the entire business remains disruption-proof.”
