Tsuneishi Heavy Industries Outlook 2018

Serving Our Global Market

Happy New Year to you all. I hope you celebrated the start of 2018 in good spirits with family and friends. First, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all our THI family members, contractors, and affiliates for their continuous support and hard work. Thanks to all our customers and ship owners for trusting Tsuneishi products and workmanship.

The marine industries are slowly recovering from the big global depression. In spite of the unfavorable business environment, we were able to build 13 ships in 2017. We have successfully completed and delivered the first 3,200 PS type Pusher boat to Kambara Tug and Marine Services, which operates coastal shipping, and 12 core bulk carrier ship models — eight of which were the 82,000DWT metric ton type Kamsarmax, two 64,000DWT, and two 58,000DWT bulk carriers.

With manufacturing bases in Japan, and three overseas factories; THI in the Philippines, TZS in China, and ATP in Paraguay, the company has expanded its businesses all over the world in response to ever-changing market needs. In the next 100 years, we will work unflinchingly and open-mindedly to create an affluent future for all.

Despite the market’s slow recovery phase, we were able to secure contracts and orders to deliver 17 ships for 2018. We will deliver five ships of 82,000DWT, 11 ships of 64,000DWT, and one 38,000DWT. This year, we plan to study the necessary facilities to build a better future production system. We will continue to work on process management, customer’s satisfaction improvement, cost competitiveness and quality improvement. We plan to increase the productivity rate aiming to achieve our target of improving production efficiency, proper personnel allocation, and shortening the ship’s production duration, enabling us to increase the production capacity in the future.

Apart from our core bulk carrier ship models, THI is working to challenge the construction of the first container ship to strategically promote product mix and build facilities to accommodate various production needs.

Aiming to be the world leading shipbuilder, Tsuneishi will keep working on its challenges and changes.

THI recognizes the importance of paying it forward as a means of showing our gratitude for the support we received from the townspeople, the government, and our shareholders. Through Tsuneishi Foundation, we support and inspire students to value education and to help qualified high school and college students continue and complete their studies. The foundation awarded scholarship grants to 135 high school scholars, 22 college scholars, and five technical/vocational scholars for the school year 2017~2018. The scholarship grants for college and vocational courses also offer On-the-Job-Training in the shipbuilding division, a great opportunity for scholars to learn first-hand know-how about shipbuilding business. We will continue to support our community through our annual tree planting and Brigada Eskwela, and other environmental improvement efforts.

Tsuneishi is one of the nation’s biggest success stories in terms of great teamwork between the Filipino and Japanese. Last year marked the 100th anniversary of Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, the anchor company of the Tsuneishi Group, which mainly engages in shipbuilding and maritime transport.

Lastly, we must always bear in mind the most important thing in our workplace, Safety First. I wish for everybody to share a sense of unity as we achieve our objectives for 2018.
