With the increase in demand for an ample supply of electricity in the Philippines, Aboitiz Construction was commissioned by Aboitiz Power Corporation to ensure that the barge that carries the first battery energy storage system (BESS) in Therma Marine, Inc., (TMI) will be anchored in place.
The project involves the construction of new breasting and mooring dolphins and extension of existing breasting dolphin to form a pocket berth for the anchoring of the barge mounted BESS adjacent to the existing Maco Oil Power Barge of TMI.
Aboitiz Construction shall design, procure, transport, install, test and render other activities for the construction of mooring and breasting dolphins and the actual berthing of the BESS barge.
BESS is a storage system that is capable of storing energy by using specialized batteries and can be connected to the grid, distribution system, or end-user facility to provide the energy when needed.
The installation of BESS in TMI, an oil power generation company under Aboitiz Power, will ensure a capacity of 49 megawatts in Maco, Davao de Oro that can strengthen its support to the Mindanao grid, especially during the summer months when there is a limited supply of energy generated by hydro-electric power plants because of low water levels.
“This project strengthens our expertise when it comes to energy efficiency projects. This also proves that in every project that we do, we are committed to building a better future, and a better Philippines,” said Anton G. Perdices, Director, President, and Chairman of Aboitiz Construction.
Aboitiz Construction is the construction arm of one of the biggest conglomerates in the Philippines, the Aboitiz Group and is a privately-held company, with a 45-year track record in building structures of value with quality and safety in mind that advance businesses and communities and contribute to building a better future.
