We forget about what happens to some presidents after they leave office. Some do quite a bit. Taft started in the Philippines and became a president of the United States. One would think that is as high at it can go. Taft went on to be a chief justice of the United States Supreme Court. He realized then that it was a more powerful position. John Quincy Adams ran and won nine times as a congressman and felt he did more then than as president, e.g. championed abolition.
