WAYS: WASTE ACTION FOR YIELDING SUSTAINABILITY IN SCHOOLS. Aboitiz Construction, in partnership with Aboitiz Foundation, turned over eco-stations to Lourdes Elementary School in Tarlac City to promote waste segregation and environmental awareness among students last October 25.

In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability, Aboitiz Construction, in partnership with Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., turned over two eco-stations to Lourdes Elementary School in Tarlac City last October 25. This initiative, part of the Waste Action for Yielding Sustainability (WAYS) project, underscores the company’s commitment to fostering responsible waste management and eco-awareness among elementary students.

The project turnover ceremony was attended by key representatives, including Dr. Irelyn Tamayo, Superintendent of the Department of Education in Tarlac City; Hon. Arnold Bermudo, Chairman of Barangay Lourdes; and Roland Socorro, Aboitiz Construction’s Project Manager in Tarlac City. The eco-stations, built by Aboitiz Construction team members using eco-panels made from recycled plastics sourced from Green Trident, are designed to facilitate waste segregation at the school. In addition, the company also donated gardening tools to further support the school’s eco-initiatives and foster a sustainable learning environment.

“Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond building structures; it’s about building a future where communities and the environment thrive together,” said Antonio Peñalver, Aboitiz Construction’s Executive Director.

As part of the project launch, Grades 5 and 6 students received an instructional session on effective waste sorting and minimizing plastic use last October 30. The students also benefited from the donation of ICT equipment, which will be used to further their digital advocacy for eco-awareness and environmental stewardship.

“We are grateful to Aboitiz Construction for empowering our students as environmental stewards. Your support inspires us to work toward a cleaner, greener future,” said Agripina Gomez, Principal of Lourdes ES.

The school’s collected waste will be forwarded to Green Light, a recycling partner, and the school will receive incentives based on their recycling contributions, adding a community-oriented approach to waste management.
