In his monthly SuperDuperCon, SMA was emphatic about building a strong cybersecurity culture, and that means having each person in the Aboitiz organization—including our partners—understand that it’s not an IT issue but a behavioral matter.
“It’s really a serious thing. It can really bring down companies, countries, and a lot of lives are affected,” he explained during the November episode hosted by AEV CIS. It was a fitting follow-up to the recently concluded Cybersecurity Awareness Month activities in AEV.
Cybersecurity need not be all technical, and A-People (along with our families) can stay safe online by remembering these:
Stop. Think. Verify. Even the best cybersecurity systems in the world cannot withstand a single lapse in judgment, such as clicking a malicious link or approving a fake request. That same “Boyet” was able to bring down multimillion-dollar companies. Let’s remind each other of best practices and turn them into clear action.
If it’s urgent and unusual, it’s unsafe until proven otherwise. Verify identities, especially for password resets and vendor requests. No password reset is minor; we don’t surrender the keys to our home to a stranger.
Third parties are part of our system. We require our vendors to function the way we do, especially concerning cybersecurity. Even if it’s someone we know or someone who sounds legitimate, we verify anyway. Adopt a zero-trust mindset.
