Aboitiz Construction’s Middle Managers ‘ASCEND’ In Leadership

Aboitiz Construction conducted “ASCEND” which is a leadership development program that aims to further enhance the leadership skills of middle managers from April 20 to 22, 2021.

What difference does a good manager make?  When managers spend most of their time guiding quality execution, coaching for performance and increasing  productivity, we see real returns.

To enhance people management capability skills among mid-level team leaders, Aboitiz Construction designed and piloted its 2021 Basic Supervisory/Management course, ASCEND 1 – Foundations.

Key topics included were:  the HR role of a Leader, Situational Leadership, Coaching, Motivating, Planning, Organizing, Controlling. The 360 Voice, a multi-source feedback survey, anchored the participants’ learning focus during the session and in applying the lessons back at work.

The session was opened by keynote guest speaker, Lino Bernardo, Chief Operating Officer of AboitizPower Thermal Business Group.  The rest of the faculty for ASCEND were  Aboitiz Construction executive team leaders who shared real world applications of the concepts, and took questions that were very specific to the business unit.

“The topic I like the most is situational leadership and this relates really to my best takeaway of the series because for me, taking care of those who are under our charge can only be effective when we know the situational status of our team members. In this way, we can better position our way of handling each and every member we have,” according to Marife Balabarino, Assistant Manager- Operations Center.

ASCEND, which means to rise, is Aboitiz Construction’s Leadership Development program that aims to elevate the capability of its leaders and equip them with knowledge and skills to lead and manage today and in the future.

Our people development programs support our ongoing Culture and Engagement journey.   Having a strong middle management pool is an important fabric in the leadership pipeline.  An effective manager makes significant contributions to the success of the company and a great influencer of employee engagement,” according to Nina Pedro, Chief Culture Architect and Engagement Champion.

Aboitiz Construction is the construction arm of the Aboitiz Group of Companies, one of the prominent conglomerates in the Philippines.
