The Great Transformation

Act, Collaborate, Empower: Shaping Agile Success

The 1AP Scrum Conference was held last November 8 where Agile Champs gathered under the theme “Act, Collaborate, Empower: Shaping Agile Success.” The event promised a deep dive into the achievements of the first three quarters of 2023 and a glimpse into the roadmap for 2024. Its main objective is to focus on re-imagining the ways 1AP works  to deliver fast and valuable results for our stakeholders.

The NAC-based conference kicked off with an engaging icebreaker inspired by the “boat is sinking” concept, emphasizing the formation of Mission-Based Squads. Teams, both online and onsite, were challenged to include diverse members, fostering a collaborative spirit.

AboitizPower President and CEO, Manny Rubio, set the tone for the Great Transformation journey, highlighting that Scrum is more than a framework; it’s a mindset.

“I believe that the true strength lies in the collective knowledge and experience that we bring to the table. Whether you are a starting scrum master, a product owner, a developer or a newcomer, there is something to contribute and learn from each other. This conference is an opportunity to engage, share and learn from one another.”

Stakeholders, including Malu Inofre (CHRO, AP Corp.) and Mr. Irineo Itoses (SVP for Operations, APRI) shared invaluable insights, underlining the significance of their perspectives in the iterative process. The conference reached a high point with the inclusion of UnionBank partners, Jaysel Bernardino, Tina Calderon, and Jokes Romero, providing a wealth of knowledge on Agile Ways of Working. The 4Bs – Believing, Behaving, Becoming, and Being – resonated as the mantra for the Great Transformation.

The climax was a thought-provoking Q&A session with a panel featuring Manny Rubio, Irene Itoses, Jaysel Bernardino, Jokes Romero, and Michelle Rubio of UnionBank. Agile Champs seized the opportunity to delve into the minds of these industry leaders. Overall, the attendees had the following key takeaways:

  1. Don’t push change too much too quickly; build awareness and empower people to embrace the change.
  2. Capitalize on early adopters and minimum viable changes to build momentum.
  3. Continuously communicate and connect.

Looking ahead to 2024, a How Might We activity, facilitated by Ryah Sarile, (AVP for Talent Optimization, Culture, and Engagement, AP Corp.), provided an inspiring glimpse into the future. Participants appreciated the valuable sharing of experiences and lessons among scrum teams, expressing enthusiasm for the collaborative possibilities and discussions on the future of the 1AP Scrum chapter. The team members do wish for more sharing from other groups and squad members, and a desire for long-term insights into the effectiveness of applying Scrum.

The event concluded with a commitment ceremony, where Agile Champs pledged to uphold Scrum Values and foster a culture of learning and growth.

“I can not help but feel proud of AP as you are leading the way as far as the Great Transformation is concerned. May you grow in number and may you all succeed in all that you do.”

Michelle Rubio, Culture Tribe Lead and Chief Human Resources Officer, UnionBank
