MCIA is 1st PH Airport to Join ACI Regional Safety Committee, Advancing Safer Journeys for Travelers

Mactan-Cebu International Airport continues to strengthen operational excellence and safety standards, ensuring a smoother and more seamless journey for millions of travelers each year.

Cebu, Philippines — Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has become the first airport in the Philippines to join the Asia Pacific and Middle East Regional Operational Safety Committee (ROSC) of the Airports Council International (ACI), marking another milestone in strengthening the country’s aviation standards and enhancing the travel experience for millions of passengers.

MCIA’s inclusion in the regional committee, led by representatives from Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA)  reflects its commitment to continuously improving airport operations and ensuring that travelers benefit from safer, more efficient, and seamless journeys. As a member of the ROSC, MCIA will collaborate with leading airports across Asia Pacific and the Middle East to exchange best practices, contribute to regional safety initiatives, and help shape strategies that strengthen aviation safety standards throughout the region.

For passengers, these efforts translate into an airport experience that prioritizes safety,  reliability, and efficiency at every stage of the journey—from arrival and check-in to boarding and departure.

“This milestone reflects our commitment to continuously raising the bar for airport operations and delivering an experience that passengers can trust,” said MCIA General Manager Ricia Montejo. “We are grateful for the continued support and partnership with Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, whose shared commitment to operational excellence enables achievements like this. By working alongside some of the region’s leading airports, we are able to bring global best practices home, helping ensure that every journey through MCIA is safer, smoother, and more reliable for the traveling public.”

The achievement also highlights the value of sustained collaboration between the private sector and government in advancing the Philippine aviation industry. Through the partnership among the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), and Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation, MCIA continues to demonstrate how strategic partnerships can support the country’s goal of meeting global aviation standards while improving passenger experience.

“MCIA’s participation in the ACI Regional Operational Safety Committee marks a significant milestone for Philippine aviation. It reflects the strong collaboration among the government, airport authorities, and private partners to align with global best practices, resulting in safer, more efficient, and more reliable travel for the Filipino public,” said CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario.

Through its participation in the committee, MCIA further strengthens its role as one of the Philippines’ leading gateways, helping shape the future of airport operations while supporting tourism, trade, and connectivity.

As air travel continues to evolve, MCIA’s engagement with global aviation leaders demonstrates its commitment to adopting international best practices that benefit travelers today while preparing the airport for the future of aviation in the Philippines.
