Dear All,

In line with our imperative of creating a team that is innovative and resilient in an atmosphere of “Remix”, some skill training helps.

At Aboitiz, it is even more important as we balance Tradition and Innovation. We have a deep well of history and tradition that has served us particularly well and we do not want to lose that. Tradition does come with baggage that does not warrant keeping.

This book is short and it will teach many as it is read and referred to on an ongoing basis.

Some points to interest you:

  • State your thinking clearly

  • Bring value and keep learning — the more you learn, the more you earn. (W. Buffett)

  • The Goal: Get a positive response. In some cases, get the best possible response.

  • Cialdini was about persuading people. In our more bureaucratic regulators on the outside, customers behaviour that responds to a super competitive atmosphere and highly competent people with different perspectives.

  • Kim Scott — Radical Candor. She is about assertiveness at its best.

  • Some situations do not allow you to be assertive! How can that be handled?

  • Mindsets and beliefs impact our action — right beliefs promote assertion.

  • Workplace tension is the result of sub-par communication and uncontrolled emotion.

  • Recognizing and accepting the strengths of co-workers and superiors boosts productivity.

  • Say “no” to your boss.

  • Accepting failures and mistakes — we make them.

  • We live in a culture that fears conflict. We have to be an oasis of assertiveness where fearing conflict is slowly diluted.

    For better and for smarter,
