Advent Upgrade Solar Inc. (AUSI), the joint venture between Aboitiz Power Distributed Renewables, Inc. (APx) and Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP), has partnered with industrial food manufacturer Marcel FoodSciences, Inc. for the installation and operation of a 793.6 kilowatt-peak (kWP) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the latter’s facility in Sibonga, Cebu.

The project, which uses more than 1,000 solar panels, is expected to generate nearly 1,401,450 kWh of renewable energy just in its first year.

“This partnership with AUSI enables us to operate more efficiently while upholding our core values of honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, and compliance,” said Marcel FoodSciences Vice President for Operations Melvin Tan.

Marcel FoodSciences, Inc. is a family-owned Philippine firm with over 50 years of experience in producing and exporting seaweed, carrageenan, and carrageenan-based functional systems.

“Marcel puts customer satisfaction first, providing high-quality, specification-tailored carrageenan in pure or custom blends for food, petfood, and industrial applications,” Tan added.

According to AdventEnergy Vice President for Retail Sales and Services Catherine Del-Villar Pasilaban, they have fostered trust and collaboration with Marcel FoodSciences by serving as their retail electricity supply partner for six years.

“Deepening this relationship to include rooftop solar reflects our shared belief that local resources – from seaweed harvested in Philippine waters to the solar energy overhead – hold the power to drive real economic growth, create lasting livelihoods, and move our industries toward a cleaner, more self-sufficient future,” she added.

APx is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corporation through Aboitiz Renewables Inc. It owns 50% of AUSI.
